Jan Smuts Avenue is getting a makeover
CRAIGHALL – Road users are advised that parts of Jan Smuts Avenue may be inaccessible during resurfacing.
Jan Smuts Avenue users will have noticed the influx of large construction vehicles on the road.
This is due to a large-scale resurfacing project. Contractors of Imvula Construction have started to tar the well-known avenue and began on 9 April at corner Argyle and Jan Smuts avenues in Craighall Park.
Due to the high traffic volumes, construction will now commence at night-time starting at about 7.30pm during the week.
Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams said, “I was told that the project should last about a month but I am not able to guarantee a time frame as yet.”
The entire project stretches from Republic Road to the N1 off-ramp, excluding the portions which are scheduled for widening (Bompas Road to Eighth Street, plus a section in Parkwood/Saxonwold).

Sello Roalane of Imvula said they have been tasked with patching potholes as well as re-taring the road.
“We started yesterday but found that there is too much traffic during the day,” said Roalane. “We did not want to inconvenience people trying to go to work in the morning and during the day.”
He too was unable to commit to a time frame of the project.
