Scouts and residents’ association hold an open day

The BryanFern Residents Association and the 1st Randburg Scouts group held a joint open day to help drive community support and have some fun at the same time.

On 27 January, Ward 104 councillor, Mike Wood was there to meet community members and answer pressing questions, if there were any.

Wood said he enjoyed being part of the Scouts’ activities as he used to be an active member many years ago.

“I feel that the Scouts of today are more relevant than ever… We need to encourage our children to not only care for the environment but be a part of it too,” Wood added.

The Scouts set up different bases for interested children to learn more about their activities, each with their own special activity, including campsite building, chopping wood and mountain climbing.

Wood shared how happy he was to take part in the event saying, “This residents’ association is one of the most dynamic in my ward… They have assisted me in a whole host of initiatives, including clean-ups and crime prevention awareness.”

Carmella Hendrikz of the Scouts said, “The purpose of today was to drive active citizenship in the community and mainly to bring people closer together.”

Bronwen Craig of the BryanFern Residents Association added, “People were streaming in and out the whole morning, and I would say that today was a success… Activities like this really help us to get information about our community out there and how they can get involved.”

While members of the community met their ward councillor and members of the residents’ association, kids enjoyed the fun activities set up by the Scouts and the variety of food on offer.

Wood added, “I would like to thank the BryanFern Residents Association for all the work that they do and the active community awareness that they bring.”
