Rand Park Primary School teachers welcomed their new grade ones with open arms while parents gave them a loving send-off on 17 January, the first day of the new school year.
Parking outside the school proved to be cumbersome as most parents stayed with their little ones until the first bell rang.
No tears were visible this year, only bright and shiny little faces who seemed very eager to learn.
Proud dad Vuyani Qudalelo said, “I am so excited for my son Aqhama… He is only six, but I feel he is a big boy now. He was not sad at all, he’s very excited to make friends and mingle… I cannot wait to hear from him how his first day went.”
Qudalelo said he chose to send his son to Rand Park Primary School as he himself is an alumni of Rand Park High School.
Mum Zikhona Qudalelo added, “I am more emotional than him, I just want to cry but at the same time I am excited for him. I have been waiting for this day for a long time.”
At 7.30am, the grade ones were summoned to their respective classrooms to meet their teachers for the first time.
After the parents were given a short introduction, the newbies entered the school hall for their first assembly.
