On 2 November, Höerskool Linden welcomed its new school principal Dr Johan Wiehahn.
The school officially welcomed him at a function attended by about 200 guests.
“We are looking forward to a new era that has now arrived at Höerskool Linden. By the end of the school’s 70th year of existence, we are ready to start writing the next chapter,” said Ronel de Wet, chairman of the school’s governing body.
Wiehahn, who spent two decades as Allen Glen High School’s principal, is excited about the new dynamic that he is going to bring to the school.
“I’m looking forward to being part of new stimulating dynamics at the school and contributing to the development and growth of the Linden community.
“I want to devote my time and attention to getting to know and understand the school, its people and its processes.
“I don’t want to only be a manager. In order to conduct a quality education, it is essential to have a thorough knowledge of the people and processes in order to achieve greater cooperation and to unlock a shared learning experience.”
His doctoral studies dealt with the professional development of leaders in education.
Wiehahn commented, “In addition to academic education, which is always a priority, I would like to contribute to the development of leadership, the availability of additional skills and the preparation of young people to successfully fill their place as good citizens of our society.”
Wiehahn places a high premium on participation in sports, arts and cultural activities as well as the emergence of technological skills.
“Through wide participation and exposure to a variety of activities, children learn from teamwork, self-control, dealing with complex problems and conflict resolution. Knowledge, skills, good judgment and insight prepare young people for a balanced adult life. Education cannot take place in silos; an integrated approach ensures success.
“There is no better satisfaction than seeing a Grade 8 learner, over a five-year period, become an independent person with critical thinking and skills that will help them get on the right path.”
