Two charged with armed robbery

KENSINGTON B – Two suspects will face charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Randburg Magistrates' Court.

Two suspects, who are both in their twenties, will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

On 8 September, at about 1pm, the victim went to withdraw money at a shopping centre in Fourways. When he arrived back at his vehicle he felt something cold pressed against his neck. One of the suspects allegedly told the victim to hand over the cash he had withdrawn.

Randburg police’s spokesperson Captain Maja Makgowanyana.

Randburg police’s spokesperson Captain Maja Makgowanyana explained that the victim’s friend managed to force the firearm away from the victim’s neck and a struggle for the gun ensued.

The firearm fell to the ground giving the accomplice enough time to pick it up and together they robbed the victims of their cash.

“Security saw what was happening and called the police. The suspects were arrested. Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered,” added Maja.

During the weekend over 150 suspects were arrested for various crimes.

The crimes included robberies which were followed up by Randburg police’s detectives. Other crimes included possession of dagga, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of housebreaking implements, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, driving under the influence and other driving offences.
