EXCLUSIVE: JRA managing director resigns

JOBURG – The director said his reasons were personal.

The managing director of the Johannesburg Roads Agency, Dr Sean Phillips, has resigned.

Phillips confirmed this on the morning of 11 August, saying his reason was personal.

The agency’s spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers, said a statement would be issued on 14 August regarding Phillips’ resignation.

Phillips assumed the managing director position on 1 May last year.

The agency’s statement at the time said Phillips’ appointment and his engineering skills served the ‘new phase of the City’s journey in road infrastructure’.

The City of Johannesburg has seen many officials resign or removed from crucial positions this year. Two members of the mayoral committee, for environment and infrastructure service and economic development, were dismissed and replaced.

The City’s Ombudsman was dismissed by the city council and the group chief financial officer and city treasurer positions still need to be filled.
