The Panther to defend title

BLAIRGOWRIE – The Randburg Boxing Club is preparing the way to success for two of its boxers.

After winning the World Boxing Association Pan African Super Middleweight title on 25 March, Patrick ‘The Panther’ Mukala, will get back into the ring on 8 August to defend his first title.

Mukala will battle it out against Kenya’s Daniel Wanyoni at the Grand Palm Hotel in Botswana,

If Mukala retains his title, he could add another knockout to his seven-knockout tally in eight fights.

“If he wins this fight, his next fight will be for the Super 4 super middleweight finals,” coach and Randburg Boxing Club owner, Ashley Fourie said.

The Super 4 fight will be on 21 October against Ryno Liebenberg at Emperors Palace. If he goes on to win that fight he is set to take on either Lee Dyer or Alfonso Tissen in the final.

But The Panther is not the only boxer to make his way out of Fourie’s ring. Under the wings of coaches Sheldon Fourie and André Smit, Bouck Son ‘Boom Boom’ Bukasa, a professional middleweight with two fights and two knockouts under his belt, is scheduled to fight again on 31 August at Presley’s in Boksburg.

Fourie, who has been a part of South African boxing for 62 years, said both boxers have made immense progress, despite the language barrier since both are from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“They train very hard,” he said.

Although there is tremendous pressure on the 23-year-old Mukala, Fourie said he was completely sure of the boxer’s ability to win. After winning the middleweight title fight by technical knockout in the eighth of 12 scheduled rounds, Mukala was ranked the 38th best Super Middleweight boxer in the world.

“He is going to be a world champion. I have always said that and I always will.”
