Councillor’s Corner: What should you do in case of a land grab?

JOBURG – Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele's answers a reader's question in Councillor's Corner

This week’s question is:

As a homeowner, what rights do you have when ‘land grabbing’ takes place close to or next to your home?

Ward 101 councillor, Dalu Cele, answers:

Every person in South Africa is protected by the Constitution. In Chapter 2 of the Bill of Rights, Section 12 of the Constitution deals with freedom and security of the individual. If there is any threat to the security of a person, the homeowner must take appropriate action.

If illegal land grabbing takes place next to or close to the home of any resident, the resident has the responsibility to report the issue to the nearest police station.
