The DA Youth of Ward 99 held their first Youth Day celebrations at the Linden Bowling Club in a fun day of learning how to play bowls.
Part of the aim of the event on 16 June was to change the perception that bowls is not only for older or retired people and that it’s for everyone, and to get people to do something they would not normally do.
DA Youth representative for Ward 99, Megan von Maltitz, said, “Playing sport over the weekend in your community is something that had gone out of fashion. Besides the health and fitness aspects, you are able to make new friends, learn about people and your community and have fun.”
After DA members and members of the community learnt the basics of bowls, they enjoyed a social game together.
Von Maltitz thanked the club and local businesses for their support and contributions to make the day possible. Boerewors rolls and candy floss were on sale for anyone who worked up an appetite and everyone received a free bag of popcorn on their way in.
People could sign a petition organised by the DA Youth of Gauteng to get driver education into schools so more school leavers will have licences.
