Children’s home in Linden will not close

LINDEN – The organisation remains greatly dependent upon the goodwill of and donations from the public.

Rumours of the imminent closure of the Mouton satellite home of Abraham Kriel Childcare are unfounded.

Abraham Kriel Childcare is running three satellite homes: Linden, Fontainebleau and Risidale. These homes are said to be doing well and there is no intention to close them now or at any time in the foreseeable future.

The children in these homes are benefitting from the kindness and generosity of the surrounding community.

Abraham Kriel Childcare started a programme of establishing satellite homes for children in its care in the early 90s. Not only is the satellite home model more affordable, but it is indeed more beneficial for the development of children on all levels. Their integration into the community is far more natural and spontaneous and they have the benefit of a far greater support system.

The organisation remains greatly dependent upon the goodwill of and donations from the public to provide a good service to such vulnerable children. The complete cost of care for a child in a satellite home after state subsidies have been taken into account, is approximately R185 per day.

Because members of the community already make contributions of food and other needs, a contribution of R125 will be enough to sponsor a child for one day. The greatest volunteering need is for assistance with homework or for maintenance work at the homes. If anyone wishes to contribute to the care of the children in these homes in our communities they can contact Hilda du Toit at hdt@abrahamkriel.org.
