Celestial Knights to land in Randburg

PRAEGVILLE – The newest member of a multi-million rand cricket league will make Randburg its home.

The Randburg Cricket Club will soon become home of the latest addition to the Lenasia Premier League – the Celestial Knights.

The multi-million rand league’s newest member has been launched by Randburg Cricket Club Juniors coaches Jody Martins and Matthew Arnold, who want nothing but victory from their first season.

“We will bring new energy to the league. As coaches we have fun, and our partnership is unique. Jody is the mental coach for the Gauteng Strikers and I play provincial cricket so we are not your typical cricket club owners, ” said Arnold, who plays for Easterns Cricket.

The 18-over league features some of the best cricket talent in Gauteng from U11 level to open, and stars such as Quinton de Kock, Imran Tahir and Hardus Viljoen have competed.

The U11, U13 and U15 games will be played in July and August, and the U21 and open age games are from August until September.

The Celestial Knights must find players to fill these squads, and an auction will be held for the U21 and open teams, but as the coaches explained, the auction money is not real money.

“It is monopoly money just for the auction, the real money paid between clubs and players is not publicised and is often negotiated before the auction.”

Martins said they have ‘R6 million’ to spend at the auction.

The club aims to buy AD Gagiano, Yaseen Valli and Yassar Cook, all franchise cricketers with international experience.

While Celestial Knights will practise at Randburg, the games will be played in Lenasia and other venues. Randburg fans can catch the action on an upcoming app that will stream the games live.
