JRA to establish a solution to Jacaranda Avenue bridge flooding

OLIVEDALE – Consultant is still busy completing the stormwater and the bridge designs.

Johannesburg Roads Agency is yet to establish a long lasting solution to the problem of flooding on the bridge on Jacaranda Avenue in Olivedale.

The agency’s spokesperson Bertha Peters-Scheepers said,

“We will know the solution once the consultant has completed the stormwater and the bridge design.” She said the contractor was expected to submit the designs by the end of June. “The actual construction will start at the end of July this year,” she added.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele said it was found that paving was the primary cause of the flooding.

“There must have been large [water] chutes prior to the construction of the paving which managed to discharge large volumes of stormwater before it could reach the bridge deck that is currently flooding,” he said.

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele says it was found that paving was the primary cause of the flooding.

He added that the contractor was instructed to design and implement the required drainage intervention that would consist of kerb inlets, chutes, channels and pipes.

“Detailed designs shall be submitted to the JRA Development Control for approval before implementation commences,” he said.
