The South Gauteng High Court in Palm Ridge handed down a 87-year sentence to four men found guilty on charges of armed robbery.
According to the Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja the complainant was sitting at home in the TV room with her two dogs on 13 April at about 5pm in Kensington B, when she heard a bang at the door.

Maja said while she was still trying to get up she was surprised by four armed men who came in with her tenant.
Maja said the men demanded the safe keys and removed them from her handbag.
He explained that the robbers ordered the victims to sit down and stole items from the house and assaulted the tenant.
According to Maja as the robbers were leaving they were confronted by police and a shootout ensued after which the men sped off in a BMW X5.
He added that the police gave chase and arrested the men in Rosebank.
According to Maja preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle was stolen from the owner.
Maja said the accused were found guilty and sentenced as follows:
- Count 1– Robbery with aggravating circumstances (15 years imprisonment)
- Count 2 – Assault with intent to do grievously body harm (three years imprisonment)
- Count 3 – Attempted murder (10 years imprisonment)
- Count 4 – Attempted murder (10 years imprisonment)
- Count 5 – Robbery with aggravating circumstances (15 years imprisonment)
- Count 6 – Possession of prohibited firearms (15 years imprisonment)
- Count 7 – Possession of ammunition (four years imprisonment)
- Count 11 – Robbery with aggravating circumstances (15 years imprisonment).
He added that some of the sentences would run concurrently with count one and that each of the accused will serve 35 years direct imprisonment.
“We would like to thank all the role players involved in making this case such a success. It will send a clear message to would-be criminals that crime does not pay,” Maja concluded.
