WARNING: Traffic disrupted on Beyers Naudé Drive
JOBURG – Residents have disrupted traffic along Beyers Naudé Drive.
Protesting residents have all but stopped traffic going south on Beyers Naudé Drive near the N1 Highway, and have blocked one lane going south near the Roosevelt Park substation.

A motorist who wished to remain anonymous, said as she was driving to work at around 8.15am, protesters had blocked off two of the three lanes heading south near the N1 Highway.
“Protesters were a bit intimidating, everyone wanted you to hoot and they were flashing posters in your face,” she said. “Before I even reached the highway, drivers were mounting kerbs to avoid the traffic.”
When it normally takes her 20 minutes to reach work, the motorist said today it took her 50 minutes.
Another motorist said he felt pressured to hoot. “They stand in front of your car and say you must hoot. They were not that aggressive though,” he said.
“From the N1 turn off to the Jim Fouché Drive it took me 15 minutes. It took me five minutes just to get into Beyers Naudé Drive from the traffic lights.”
Motorists are urged to find alternate routes where possible.
Around 10 000 protesters are expected at the DA’s march at Mary Fitzgerald Square, while residents are also gathering at Beyers Naudé Drive, the Roosevelt Park substation, Hendrik Potgieter Road in Roodepoort, Witkoppen Road, and along Conrad Drive in Blairgowrie today.
