Johannesburg Water is the municipal-owned entity of the City of Johannesburg responsible for providing water and wastewater services to about five million people.
With an annual income of more than R6 billion, the entity is crucial to the City’s overall revenue.
More than 2 500 people work within seven regions and 10 network depots to make sure taps keeps running.
Although this does not always happen, plans to re-integrate the entity into the City’s administration is a decision made by Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba and is aimed at bettering service delivery.

- Johannesburg Water distributes and stores 574 billion litres of freshly drinking water via 11 896kms of water pipes, through 116 reservoirs and 35 water pump stations to 1.74 million households per year (according to a 2011 census).
- The entity collects and treats 329 billion litres per year of wastewater at six treatment plants carried through 11 786km of sewerage pipes, and 39 sewage pump stations and more than 120 000 manholes.
- Johannesburg Water received an award for providing 99.9 per cent quality water.
