Food items and clothes were also donated to various households in Kya Sand informal settlement.

“We donated clothes and food items to various households and we also spent time with young boys at Golden Harvest [Treatment Centre] giving hope and helping them rehabilitate from drug use,” said Sheperd Manjengwa of Advent Hope.

Manjengwa said they chose this informal settlement considering the rate of unemployment and poor living standards.

“We managed to donate clothes for children, men and women and also donated food items for four families. These families will then distribute to the rest of the community in need,” he said.

The church also works with Randburg South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca).

Sanca is a centre which provides prevention, treatment and aftercare to people and groups affected by substance abuse.

“As the youth, we are aware of the growing problem of substance abuse, especially with young people. We hope our outreach programmes will help the affected people live a clean and better life,” Manjengwa concluded.
