Colombia open to begin business in South Africa

Dr Alfredo Ramos Gonzalez from Colombia told members of the Randburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) that Colombia was open for investment opportunities.

Gonzalez, who was invited by the chamber to promote business opportunities between Colombia and South Africa, was addressing the members on the evening of 6 March at the Fairway Hotel in Randpark Ridge.

The Colombian director of Asia, Africa and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said there was an opportunity for local businesses to begin their investments in Colombia.

He said the country had a diverse economic sector which provided an opportunity for investments and that both countries shared various similarities.

According to Gonzalez, the country was looking forward to learning from the South African reconciliation process.

“We have managed to reduce the poverty rate and decrease the gap between the rich and the poor over recent years,” he said.

He said Colombia was at the centre of Latin American countries.

“This is the reason why many Asian companies are using Colombia as their main distributor,” explained Gonzalez.

During the Colombian Embassy’s presentation on business opportunities, Gonzalez provided a glimpse of how the country’s economic structure and growth was.

The City of Johannesburg’s director of trade and investment, Reginald Pholo said the City was ready to explore opportunities available in Colombia.

“Joburg is ready for you; your manufacturing sector can assist us to create jobs in our country,” Gonzalez concluded.
