Rand Park High faces off against Bryanston High

RANDPARK RIDGE – The spirit of sport and camaraderie was the winner of the day at the Rand Park versus Bryanston Derby Day.

It was a great day for sportsmanship at Rand Park High School and Bryanston High School’s Derby Day.

This year the derby was held at Rand Park on 4 March, which saw many pupils, sportsmen, parents and guests gather together to witness a great day of sports. Each team from the U14B team to the first teams were able to compete against each other in rugby, hockey and netball.

“It was great to welcome Bryanston High to Rand Park for our first Derby Day of 2017. Bryanston is always consistent in its sportsmanship and is highly competitive – these are two things we value and appreciate most,” said Alan Wilke, principal of Rand Park High School.

The day provided mixed results for both schools. Bryanston principal, John Skelton said, “We always enjoy the derby days with Rand Park, they share the same ethos as us and it’s a great day for education and sportsmanship. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity.”

The scores for the 1st team games were as follows:

Netball: Rand Park won 45–22

Hockey (girls): Rand Park won 3–0

Hockey (boys): Bryanston won 4–1

Rugby: Rand Park won 56–3

Wilke added, “We were also very pleased with our overall performance on the day and the outstanding support provided by our learners who watched the teams compete with genuine commitment to their sport of choice. We look forward to another successful winter sports season.”
