Five arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

Douglasdale police officers recently arrested five suspects at Pipeline informal settlement who were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the spokesperson for Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Kgasoane, it was alleged that police officers were patrolling the area when they came across a Toyota Hiace minibus taxi parked at the side of the road and inside were six men acting suspiciously.

“The police then searched the taxi and recovered two 9mm unlicensed firearms and two magazines, one firearm had eight live rounds and the other one had four live rounds. The serial numbers on the firearms were filed off and, unfortunately, the sixth suspect is still at large.”

Kgasoane added that the suspects are set to appear in court soon.

“The police will continue with crime prevention activities and we appeal to members of the community to be vigilant at all times and to report any suspicious activities to the police.”
