CRESTA – Swimming prodigy Carl Krause holds his own in Rwanda and returns with eight medals.

He was invited to attend the championships, which took place on 19 and 20 November, by Swim SA and took part in several events and returned with four silver and four gold medals.

“I started swimming when I was nine years old and my coach at the time encouraged me to participate in swimming galas. I really enjoy swimming and have worked hard to improve my time,” he said.

Krause spends five days every week training with his team Aqua Athlete who train at the Virgin Active in Cresta.

“I attribute my success to my coach Adrian Goate who gives me great advice which really helps with my swimming,” he said.

Krause pointed out that it was his first time leaving the country on his own but he enjoyed making new friends and the highlight of his trip was when he received his medals for all the events he swam in.

His biggest dream is to swim in the Olympics and hopes to have improved his swimming times enough to qualify for Tokyo 2020.

The Fairland resident said that his role model in swimming was Michael Phelps and that he hoped to one day break the records that the American swimmer broke in his swimming career.

Head coach for the Aqua Athlete, Goate said that Krause had great potential as he was dedicated to the sports.

“With his go-getter attitude, Carl is sure to reach any goal that he sets for himself and if he wants to go to the next Olympics I will be here to help him reach that goal,” Goate said.
