Hordes of medals for Aqua Athlete swim team

CRESTA – The Aqua athlete swimming team has come back from a swim meet in Durban with lots of medals to boast of.

The Aqua Athlete Aquatics Club swimming team, recently returned from a meet in Durban with hordes of medals.

The team of about 20 members attended the Seagull Winter Short Course Championship Gala in Durban, where they represented their club.

The team practices at Virgin Active, Cresta every week.

Head coach of the team, Adrian Goate said the team was in good form as they had prepared well in advance. “Swimmers swam against themselves and swam for time. Medals were handed out to the swimmers who had the best time in their category.”

He added that swimmers attended a training camp the weekend before the competition and that he was very happy with the team’s performance.

Goate spoke fondly of one of the swimmers, who came all the way from Nigeria to attend the competition. Opemipo Olaleye has been trained by Goate via WhatsApp and virtual video and Olaleye received a bronze medal for the 4x50m relay.

The following swimmers received medals:

  •  Abigail da Costa: Bronze – 4x50m relay
  •  Simon Kilian: Silver – 100m breaststroke
  •  Oliver da Costa: Bronze – 4x50m relay
  •  Rowan Cowper: Bronze – 4x50m relay
  •  Carl Krause: Bronze – 4x50m relay
  •  Luan Husselmann: Bronze – 4x50m relay
  •  Adriaan Steyn: Bronze – 4x50m relay, and a bronze for the 100m breaststroke
  •  Gabriela Mladenov: Silver – 50m and 100m backstroke
  •  Opemipo Olaleye: Bronze – 4x50m relay.
