Security guards halt robbery
CRESTA – Security guards fight off suspects and foil robbery.
Three male suspects attempted to rob Watch Republic, a jewellery and accessories store at Cresta Shopping Centre.
On 12 September at around 9.29am one suspect lingered outside the shop while the other two suspects entered the shop. They grabbed the salesman and attempted to drag him into the storeroom.
Linden Police Station spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer said, “The salesman then fought back and ran out into the centre screaming for help.” A female Cresta security guard responded to his pleas and with the assistance of her colleagues arrested the two suspects.
One of the suspects, who was keeping watch outside, was later apprehended by another security guard.
Spencer explained that no firearms were used, only physical force and, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Randburg Sun tried to obtain comment from Cresta Shopping Centre, as well as the shop, without any success. The story will be updated as soon as we receive comment from them.
