Metrobus could stop trips due to looming fuel crisis

JOBURG – The strike has now affected Joburg's rapid bus transport system with some of its scheduled trips possibly not operating from tomorrow.

Metrobus has warned that it might have to suspend its services due to the continuing fuel strike which has led to its fuel supplier unable to deliver fuel to its depots.

Metrobus spokesperson Esther Dreyer explained that fuel is running low at some of the service depots.

“In view of the fuel crisis, we may not operate all scheduled trips as from 2 August, until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she said.

The strike started on 28 July and many are concerned that petrol stations will soon be without fuel, as is the case in some parts of Gauteng.

Meanwhile, the petrol will fall by around a Rand a litre, diesel by approximately 70 cents, and illuminating paraffin by about 66 cents on 3 August.
