Curro Aurora embraces the spirit of Nelson Mandela

SUNDOWNER – Pupils, teachers and administrators from Curro Aurora donated various items to several needy schools.

SUNDOWNER – Pupils and teachers from Curro Aurora supported several schools in vulnerable communities to celebrate and embrace the good deeds of Nelson Mandela.

“The charity work we do is very close to the hearts of Curro Aurorians – education which is at the core of what we do as a school and is one of our charity pillars,” said the school marketer and personal assistant to the executive head, Matona Sakupwanya. The school believes they are ‘game changers’ who are raising, nurturing, shaping and educating fellow game changers and they strive to change and better someone else’s life, however, small it may seem .

Parents of the pre-school pupils and educators collected and created food parcels which were donated along with children’s’ chairs and toys at Golang pre-school in Zandspruit and Thorn Tree Academy – a non-profit organisation in Kya Sand on the 25 July.

Pupils from primary school assisted by their educators made sandwiches and sweet packages which were handed over to Thorn Tree Academy on the 20 July.

These pupils also donated books, bookshelves, carpets and cushions which were used to create a book corner at the school.

The high school hosted a Barefoot Day on 20 July and about 1000 shoes were collected and these will be handed over to the Refilwe Community near Cullinan, a community they have been heavily involved with for the past year.

The executive team and administration staff led by the school’s executive head, Johann Ueckermann; primary school head, Colston Veater and headmistress of Curro Castle Aurora, Janet Beyrooti donated food parcels including toiletries as well as a planted vegetable garden to the West Rand school for pupils with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, learning difficulties and pupils with physical disabilities.

Ueckermann also pledged to support the school for the next coming years.
