Where’s your ID? Where’s your vote?

PRETORIA – Minister of Home Affairs, Malusi Gigaba, urges voters to collect their IDs.

As the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) launched its National Result Centre in Pretoria, the Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba urged 260 000 South Africans to collect their identity documents at the various Home Affairs offices across the country.

Gigaba pointed out that the country was ready to vote and elect its party of choice to lead them. “So far, so good, all parties have behaved themselves and the IEC has done an incredible job so far,” he said.

He added that from now until election day all Home Affairs offices across the country would be open until late and that on election day they would open from 7am until 7pm.

“Currently, we are in talks with some municipalities to bus the owners of the IDs to the various Home Affairs offices to ensure that they are collected in time,” he said.

He pointed out that the smart card IDs required that the person who has applied for it to collect it in person.
