WATCH: Tau will ‘build a city for everybody’

Tau was formally introduced by the ANC as its City of Johannesburg mayor candidate for the upcoming local government elections.

Executive Mayor Parks Tau, during his formal introduction by the ANC as its City of Johannesburg mayoral candidate, said he will continue to build a spatially inclusive city in what he calls the “most cosmopolitan city in the African continent”.

Tau was one of the 11 Gauteng mayoral candidates introduced by the ANC at Ruth First House on 23 June.

ANC regional chairperson Paul Mashatile announced the names of all the mayoral candidates and Tau was once again chosen as the candidate mayor for the economic hub of the country. Mashatile said the ANC is contesting all 11 municipalities.

Tau, an avid golfer and cyclist, plans to keep the city a vibrant city that caters to all if he is voted to keep his mayoral seat for a second term from 2016 to 2021. He plans to keep ‘building a city for everybody’.

“[The city] is vibrant and creates opportunities for different people and will continue to attract people who come here in search of opportunities,”he said.

Tau talked about facilitated learning, the technological service within the city, and the inner city renewal programme and said he will continue to build a city for every resident within it.

He closed his brief statement by talking about the recently launched online varsity programme where students can access international qualifications through public libraries.
