Prisoners escape from Magistrates’ Court

KENSINGTON B – Suspects who fled from the court were immediately re-arrested.

Two of seven dangerous suspects who fled from the Randburg Magistrates’ Courts on 22 June were re-arrested within an hour.

The two awaiting trial prisoners were due to appear at the court when they fled from the yard, climbed over the wall and attempt to flee before they were arrested in Ferndale Shopping Centre, close to the court.

According to the Randburg Police, the seven suspects were scheduled to appear on charges of attempted murder, murder, attempted business breaking, business robbery and ATM bombing.

“Police added another charge of escaping from the court, which is separate from that of the other five charges,” said police spokesperson Constable Stanley Bopape.
