Bloubosrand water cut, tanks available

BLOUBOSRAND - Residents can expect to be without water till tonight.

Joburg Water (JW) has announced it will implement planned water interruptions due to maintenance in the suburb today, 14 June.

According to JW spokesperson, Eleanor Mavimbela, various streets in the suburb will be affected today from this morning till 6pm tonight. Residents can expect the water to be restored between 6pm and 10pm.

Mavimbela said the interruption is planned to due a water pressure reducing valve being installed.

“Water tanks will be provided on the corner of Rooipeer Street and Drommedaris Avenue, Centaurus Street and Drommedaris Avenue, Haerlem Place and Vorschoten Street and Schieman Avenue and Agulhas Road,” she said.

Level-2 water restrictions, which means no municipal water should be used to irrigate gardens at certain times, to fill swimming pools or wash cars, are still in place and should be adhered to.

But Mavimbela said due to the colder weather conditions, the stipulated times that residents are not allowed to water and irrigate their gardens has changed from 6am till 6pm to 8am till 4pm every day.

“We urge residents to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg, and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to 0800 00 25 87. Residents are encouraged to subscribe, on our website, to our sms notification service for alerts on planned or unplanned service interruptions,” she added.

Water restrictions will also take place in certain streets in Marlboro.

Water saving tips from JW:

  • Don’t leave taps dripping
  • Take shallow baths
  • Use bathwater or grey water to water the garden.
