A water pipe bordering the park on Aries Road in Sundowner has been leaking for months despite promises to residents. Sundowner resident, David Strachan, explained, “[In April] the water flowed down the new manhole that had been installed by Telkom for their new fibre installation. I phoned several times and got several different reference numbers.”
According to Strachan, during his numerous calls, he was told that the case had been closed. After much frustration, Strachan got a manager to the site and he was promised that the problem would be solved.
About a week later in May, a bulldozer arrived. “They dug out the whole area ripping out the Telkom manhole in the process. They attempted to fix the leak but it’s still running slowly,” added Strachan.
Weeks later, the problem is yet to be fixed. “I am totally flabbergasted that we are now in June and we are still sitting with this problem – who pays for the wasted water,” he said.
Johannesburg Water has been contacted and comment is awaited.
