Young cross-country runners impress with speed

HYDE PARK – Cross-country runners from Hyde Park High School set a name for themselves after an athletic meet.

Hyde park High School’s cross country team is making waves after taking the lead at a meet held at St Stithians College.

Avril Wright, the marketing and liaison secretary, said that the Hyde Park High School’s cross-country runners were making a reputation for themselves.

“They run like a well-oiled machine as a team, working together and this enables them to run to their maximum capacity,” she said. Wright pointed out that the results from this meet, held on 13 May, elevated the senior boys A team to 2nd place on the log, out of 16 teams.

She added that Lehlohonolo Ramogale, a Grade 8 pupil, was placed 4th individually out of all the junior boys who ran at the meeting adding that this was an outstanding effort for a junior runner.

“The St Stithians College Trail Run course is very steep, rocky and densely wooded and is extremely tough which added more pressure on the runners but they managed to pull through,” Wright added. She pointed out other up-and-coming stars in the school’s team such as Tsego Jones, Arkeev Rohit, Joshua Wacks, Penyo Kgokane, Amo Shenxane and Ivanka Pretorius, were all placed in the Top 20 at the St Stithians Trail Run. Principal of the school, Manolis Vogiatzis, congratulated the cross country senior boys A team and commended them on their guts and determination to give of their best at the meet.

Blairgowrie resident, Cian MacFie, pupil at the school and a member of the senior cross country team, said that he enjoyed the camaraderie of the team and that he looked forward to the rest of the season.

Wright explained that the team would be running again on 3 June at the cross country teams inter-league meet at Delta Park.
