Two Joburg entities in the running for African Utility awards

JOBURG - City Power and Rand Water are among the finalists for the third annual African Utility Week Industry Awards.

The third annual African Utility Week Industry Awards promises to be an evening of glitz and glamour, celebrating Africa’s power and water professionals as well as utilities and projects that exceeded all expectations.

The winners of these prestigious industry awards will be announced during a gala dinner on 18 May at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Award categories vary from Power Utility of the year, Clean Energy Project of the year, the Future Leader award and Power or Water Woman of the Year.

Among countries like Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya, Joburg’s own Rand Water and City Power made it into the awards as finalists as well.

Rand Water is a finalist for the category, Water Utility of the Year. Justice Mohale from Rand Water said that the entity is delighted to be a finalist for the 2016 awards. According to Mohale they look forward to the result. He added that they pride themselves in the supply of good quality potable water. To this effect, Rand Water provides water that is safe for human health for lifetime consumption.

City Power is nominated for the Power Utility of the year award. Hloni Motloung from City Power said that the awards are open to the entire continent and City Power is vying for this much sought after award with a number of utilities from across the continent. namely Ghana Grid Company Limited, KenGen from Kenya, Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited and Volta River Authority from Ghana.

Motlaung added that City Power is very pleased about the nomination. “It is an affirmation of the hard work that has been done by the entity,” said Motlaung.
