Robin Hills Primary School can boast that they have a passionate team of teachers due to the vehement strength of its principal, Danielle Adams. Adams shared her passions and accomplishments she has managed to garner through her 26-year career.
She conveyed that she comes from a family of educators. “Although my mum and dad were not teachers, each of my mum’s sisters were either teachers or in education in some shape or form,” said Adams. She said that even when she was in primary school she knew she wanted to teach. When she got her Matric certificate she knew exactly what to study.
“If I could do my life all over again I would still go back and pine to be a teacher because it is something I am passionate about,” said Adams. She was a qualified teacher by the time she was 20 years old and stated that one of her greatest decisions was to study at a college. “Studying at a college gave the best practical experience that I could have imagined,” said Adams.
She explained that she is motivated every morning by the sheer fact that she can make a difference in a pupil’s life. “There is never a morning where I wake up and think ‘why am I here’ – this is where I want to be,” said Adams.
The keen principal expressed that one of the challenges she has faced is the big classes. “When you notice pupils who may have social, learning or emotional problems, it’s harder to get to each pupil as they are so many and if there are too few resources you cannot always refer those children,” said Adams.
Along with being the principal, she also teaches the Grade 7s life orientation. When asked if being a principal is the last stop in her career she said that although there are grander positions, being a principal has a greater impact in society.
