Professional services free in Windsor on Community Day
WINDSOR EAST– Professional services and expertise will be on offer free of charge on Community Day on 23 April.
Local community organisations, churches and like-minded groups are once again combining their resources to offer professionals services and expertise free of charge during the annual Community Day.
This year the event will be hosted on Saturday 23rd April at the Windsor East Recreation Centre in Viscounts Avenue.
For several years now various service providers have offered their services to the Windsor East and West community free of charge, said Grant Walton, the main organiser of the event. “These include doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, optometrists, audiologists, lawyers, labour and career consultants, social workers, counsellors, and more.”
In addition to the other service providers, a mobile dental unit for full dentistry will be available on the premises, and a team of audiologists from Pretoria will be testing hearing and providing free hearing devices. “Specialists from a couple of the universities will also be in attendance,” said Walton .
In past years, hundreds of people have availed themselves of the opportunity and have been assisted in different ways.
The doors open to the public at 9am and close at 4pm. Services on offer include:
• Doctors, nurses and medical specialists
• Dentists with both dental care education and full dentistry on offer
• Optometrists for eye tests and sponsored spectacle prescriptions as well as cataract treatment at a local eye facility
• Physiotherapists/pain clinic
• Audiologists for hearing tests and assistive devices
• Nutrition/Mother and Child clinic
• Social workers and counsellors
• Financial advice
• Career advice
• Labour law
• Human trafficking awareness
• Other services
In addition, there will be supervised childcare, and simple refreshments provided to every participant. As many of these services have been oversubscribed in the past years, and not every service will be available for the whole day, those wanting to make use of them are urged to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
