A valiant new group

RANDPARK – Robin Hills Primary School inducts it's new 2016 leaders.

Robin Hills Primary School inducted it’s new vibrant team of school leaders for the year.

The ceremony took place on 8 April and was attended by parents and fellow peers.

The leader selection process was no easy task as all pupils had to showcase some measure of leadership. Those who were selected shadowed the leaders of 2015 so that teachers could get an understanding of their personality traits.

Deputy principal, Bronwyn Jones said that to identify leaders, the pupils had activities outside of the classroom to get them out of their every day environment. She added that the first term is also seen as somewhat of a probation phase so to further gauge each pupil’s leadership qualities.

Leader coordinator, Mr Vernon Ludick said that the elimination process of the leaders starts from Grade 6. He also added that from the time that the role of leader is given to a pupil, their maturity level seems to develop with their new role.

At the induction ceremony, the new leaders took a pledge, which Jones said all pupils take very seriously. “The leaders read out their pledge to the school and you could see the pride they had,” said Jones.

One of the newly inducted leaders, Felicia Balyoi said that she was happy that the teachers saw leadership qualities within her. She added that one of her challenges as being a leader is that some of the pupils do not listen to her. “They don’t see me as having power,” said Baloyi. The aspiring electrical engineer said that with all the challenges, she is slowly fitting into her role.

Jones concluded that the leaders will have some measure of difficulty disciplining their peers but if they have a consistent approach to all of the pupils, then it should get easier in time.
