Anyone for a game of squash?
BLAIRGOWRIE – 37 years or just two months of experience – makes no difference as people at any skill level can play the highly energised game of squash.
The Randburg Squash Club in Blairgowrie offer participants not only exercise, but a chance to socialize with many different people from all walks of life.
The Gauteng league is currently being held at the squash club, every Tuesday evening. The Gauteng league has league teams ranked one to 12. Kevin James, a player from the club explained that the league gives every player a chance to play against everyone. The winners from this league will be chosen to represent Gauteng.
James has been playing squash for 37 years and represented Gauteng in provincial tournaments many times. He also participated in the SA masters. “It is such a fast and quick game and makes for intense exercise,” explained James. Rob Eurelle is another professional player that started playing quash 34 years ago and he also represented Gauteng in the SA Masters. He said that squash is very addictive and it is a good way to get rid of frustrations.
“The sport offers a lot of exercise. It also keeps young people off the streets as it teaches very good discipline,” said Eurelle. Young people can also participate. Kyrane Warwick who works at the club said that many players bring their young children along to also play.
Jason Kubannek, barman at the club, and Warwick explained that they have only been playing squash for two months, but enjoy it very much. “I have played all different types of sport and squash is definitely the toughest workout, but it is very good,” said Warwick.
