Two Unika athletes on their way to SA’s

ROBINDALE – Two Unika athletes made their school proud after being selected for the Gauteng team to go to the SA Athletics Championship in Port Elizabeth.

Two athletes from Laerskool Unika managed to take the top two places in the Gauteng Primary School Athletics Championships.

Timeke-Jade Coetzee and Phillip Steyn now qualify for the South African Primary School Athletics Championships that will take place on 11 and 12 March in Port Elizabeth at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University stadium.

The Gauteng championships were held at the Roodepoort Athletics Stadium. A total of 13 athletes from Laerskool Unika competed for a place in the Gauteng team. Five of the 13 athletes qualified to participate in the finals of their specific events. For athletes to be chosen for the Gauteng team they had to come in either first or second place in their event.

Of the five, Coetzee qualified in the girls U10 80m track event and Steyn won the boys U12 75m hurdles and 150m hurdles event. The school said that they would like to congratulate the two athletes and wish them the best of luck.
