Old Parks officially kicks off their soccer league

BORDEAUX – A new league starts at revamped Old Parks outdoor arena.

The Old Parktonian Sports Club in Bordeaux had their ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open their outdoor sports arena on 30 January.

Old Parks and Africa United have been working together for the past five years to create pitches for netball, soccer and a first-of-its-kind cricket pitch where teams can bowl from both sides. Sixteen teams came from all around Johannesburg to compete in a friendly league which was won by Mthy’s FC from Randburg.

The social games took place to welcome new and old teams who have been associated or have played at Old Parks Sports Club – with an official ribbon cutting ceremony that was performed in front of all the players and the guests.

Old Parks and Africa United will be hosting soccer leagues and they are still accepting soccer and cricket players to come and join the teams. Teams will play every week from Monday to Friday and everyone is welcome to come and join individually or in teams.

“We will be showcasing outdoor action cricket with 13×18 pitches, instead of the standard 12×18,” said Africa United director and owner, Wayne Cilliers. Everything is new and ready to be used by the community.
