Community gives 7 000 litres

RANDPARK RIDGE – A community comes together and collects over 7 000 litres of water in two weeks time.

Earlier this month a Randpark Ridge resident collected 2 500 litres of water in the Randburg area. Since then she has managed to surpass her goal of collecting 2 000 more litres.

Corinna Tannian from Randpark Ridge worked on behalf of Operation Hydrate and Water Shortage South Africa to collect water in the Randburg area. “I responded to the need for a drop-off point in Randburg and surrounding areas,” said Tannian. She further said that she started collecting water since 10 January and has already managed to collect 7 000 litres of water. “The first load has already gone to areas in need of water and I currently have around 4 000 litres water that is ready for collection.”

Tannian said that the first collection went very well and that she is already arranging the next collection. “The community’s response was very good and they were very willing to help,” said Tannian. She further explained that she is not sure where the last collection of water was delivered, as it went to a depot on Main Reef Road and was sent by truck through the Operation Hydrate initiative. “I will continue to collect water as long as it is needed.” According to Tannian, feed for animals is also being requested by separate initiatives as well as grass cuttings for animals in drought-stricken areas.

Communities continue to collect water as some areas in the country still struggle to get by without water.
