Local resident assists with water crisis

RANDPARK RIDGE – Local resident opens home to community to drop off collected water for drought-stricken areas.

Corinna Tannian has lent a helping hand to those in areas affected by the recent drought.

The Randpark Ridge resident has opened her house to members of the community to drop off containers of water.

Tannian said she started collecting water herself and opened her house as a drop-off point after she had come across an appeal on Facebook by Water Shortages South Africa and The Water Project South Africa.

“I decided I wanted to make my contribution by offering to store the collected water for residents of Randburg and surrounding areas,” said Tannian.

She said at first, the closest drop-off point was in Krugersdorp, which seemed far for most community members.

Tannian said she has collected 2 000 bottles of water that have already been dispatched to severe drought-stricken areas but is still collecting more.

“I will be working on this initiative until the rains come or there is no longer a dire need for water. I am collecting drinking water as well as borehole or well-water for animals and sanitation in affected areas,” said Tannian.

She concluded she has collected around 2 500 litres of water since she started and aims to collect another 2 000.

Tannian asked community members and companies to please support her.
