Fallen electric pole leaves residents without electricity

ROBIN HILLS – Residents of Robin Hills in Emerald Crescent are experiencing a power outage for four consecutive days.

It has been four days since residents of Robin Hills at Emerald Crescent reported a fallen electric pole to City Power and nothing has been done yet.

Some residents on the same street have been without power since the electric pole fell onto a private property’s fence on 9 January.

Live cables were scattered on the road and the broken pole is lying on the fence while residents endure the frustration of living without electricity for a third consecutive day.

Residents were apparently promised that their problem would be resolved by the end of the day on 10 January but nothing has been done yet.

Ward 99 Councillor Bruce Herbert explained that residents incorrectly reported the problem over the weekend but he escalated their plight to the relevant department at the City of Joburg.

He explained that the City assured him that they would fix the problem by the morning of 11 January. “I’ve pulled all the strings at the council and they assured me the problem will be solved urgently,” he said.

He continued that City Power’s challenge was lack of resources and hence time taken to resolve problems may be longer than expected.

“They [City Power] have gone to the subcontractors to do the job, and those people don’t work quickly,” he explained.

Sydney Mphahlele from City Power’s communication department acknowledged receiving questions from the media, and promised that he would respond as soon as he received feedback from the region.
