Cosmo City Mall pedestrian bridge to open this month
COSMO CITY – The new Pedestrian Bridge will serve the main pedestrian entrance into Cosmo Mall.
A new multi-million rand landmark in Cosmo City on Malibongwe Drive will be opened later in December.
Cosmo Mall pedestrian bridge which is currently under construction, is developed by the owners and developers of the mall, Bentel Group.
According to the statement, the bridge is set to open just ahead of peak festive season trading.
The pedestrian bridge is intended to provide for a safer and convenient pedestrian and cycle crossing, to make it wheelchair friendly, to keep pedestrians safe from the high speeds of Malibongwe Drive.
According to the statement the bridge will also give pedestrians access from or to the Cosmo City Regional Transport Facility and market. “It is foreseen that the new bridge will become a familiar landmark in the area as well as a tourism attraction that will benefit the City and the local communities.”
The bridge will be 410m long and it is strategically located at the entrance of Cosmo City.
The pedestrian bridge will not only give Cosmo City residents and visitors safe and easy pedestrian access to the Cosmo Mall, but represents a major private sector investment in public infrastructure by the Bentel Group.
Bentel Group executive chairman Aubrey Bentel said, “The Cosmo Mall pedestrian bridge is scheduled to open to the public in the latter half of December.”
The bridge and walkway will serve the main pedestrian entrance into the new mall and it is hoped that it will result in more than 400 000 shoppers visiting the mall in December alone.
In designing and constructing the bridge, a highly skilled professional team was put together comprising of WSP Consulting Civil and Structural Engineers, Rob Bray Architects, Quad Africa Electrical Engineers and contractors Tri-Star and Ferro Eleganza.
Bentel concluded that they are proud of their investment in the Cosmo Mall development and the new Cosmo Mall pedestrian bridge and that these are major investments into Cosmo City in terms of quality retail and public infrastructure that has not only created jobs, but an exciting shopping and leisure destination right on their doorsteps.
