A persistent water leak

FERNDALE – Burst pipe causes residents anguish as they see a pipe leak water for a month.

Residents have expressed concern at a burst pipe on the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Street, Ferndale, that has been gushing water for what seems to be about a month.

A resident who wishes to stay anonymous said that he had initially called the Ward 102 Councillor David Potter but the pipe is yet to be fixed.

“Water has been gushing for a month now and nothing has been done to fix it,” said the complainant.

Councillor Potter did say that he had received complaints about the leak and that he had seen the burst pipe about a week ago. He said that he then logged the issue with Joburg Water and was given a reference number.

“The Randburg Central Improvement District are also working to escalate the problem and they have it in reference number,” said Potter.

He also added that one of the residents had also logged with Joburg Water using the nearby corner, Bram Fischer Drive and Harley Street.

Potter emphasised that he had sent the matter to Joburg Water’s, Randburg depot regional manager.

When asked how long residents would have to wait for the pipe to be fixed, Potter said that it should take at least 48 hours for a burst pipe to be attended to. As to why it has taken this long for the pipe to be fixed, Potter concluded that he had no idea why Joburg Water had not attended to it in good time.

“According to the CID it was attended to but is leaking again or it was never fixed properly the first time,” said Potter. “The road surface will also need to be fixed as it will have a huge hole it and bad wear and tear.”
