She said on registration weekends, registration staff members were deployed to various stations and South African citizens could visit those stations to register. “Those who are unable to go to the station, can apply at the IEC’s municipal offices to have IEC staff registering them in their homes,” she explained.

She further pointed out that to be a registered voter residents must be South African citizens, have reached the age of 16 years but can only vote when they reach 18 years of age.

“They must have a green bar-coded ID or Smart Card and register at the IEC’s municipal offices for the voting district where you are ordinarily resident,” concluded Monaki.
