Canoe Union school league at Florida Lake

RANDPARK RIDGE – Jaydon Hunt from Randpark Ridge is the club’s top U14 racer.

A variety of schools throughout the Gauteng Province competed in the Gauteng Canoe Union School League race at Florida Lake on 31 October.

Juniors raced in age-appropriate distances from U8 through U18.

Jaydon Hunt was the U14 Randpark Ridge club’s top racer with Tristan Trican also achieving medals in the U16 group while Moses Ngomane was also a podium position holder in the U18 category.

Gauteng Canoe Union spokesperson Jennie Dallas explained the points were awarded for each participant completing the monthly races.

“The final event and prize-giving will be held on the Vaal River on 21 November, where the winning Primary and High Schools, top individuals and clubs who coach the juniors will receive recognition for their achievements over the year,” explained Dallas.

She further added that Florida Lake Canoe Club (FLCC) juniors had always performed exceptionally well with Matthew van der Merwe from Charter House leading the U12 boys; Kamilah Hank of Curro Aurora topped the U12 girls while her sister Ameerah Hank led the U10 in the Gauteng school league.

“A number of newer pupils also did very well, achieving fourth place and just missing podiums – Gustav Preller’s Davy Brown, and Sisanda Mthabela of General de la Rey Primary School,” she concluded.
