‘A Million Likes for Change’ campaign

DOUGLASDALE – A million Likes for Change campaign encourages residents to visit their website and like their campaign.

Change campaign ambassador Loyiso Bala, is advocating for people to go on social media and like, share and tweet about the campaign.

Bala said the campaign was started earlier this year by Afrika Tikkun which focused on providing resources for children throughout their lives.

Their programmes aim at assisting children from their early childhood development up until they reach the working world.

Bala said that the campaign was a fundraising operation that enabled Afrika Tikkun to provide health, education and library services to young people who are assisted with a variety of problems.

“All people have to do is go to the website and click on the Like for Change link in order to unlock a R35 donation. It will cost them nothing but time,” he said.

He encouraged everyone to get involved with the campaign as it sought to change the lives of up to 5 000 children through outreach programmes that also helped the children with mentorship.

“What is so great about the campaign is that once the kids grow up, they themselves become mentors and role models which makes the work that of the campaign much less as time goes on,” he added.

Bala said that Afrika Tikkun has centres that are located in Orange Farm, Alexandra and Diepsloot in an attempt to service disadvantaged areas.

“The campaign is aimed at stimulating ordinary South Africans to focus less on the problems we face every day and more on becoming part of the solution,” he added.

The Douglasdale resident said that he was recently touched when he took his daughter to one of the centres and saw how she responded with empathy toward other.

“That’s what the campaign is all about, getting everyone involved to create change,” Bala said.
