GALLERY: SA dominates at Greenfields African Hockey Championship

MALANSHOF – The Greenfields African Hockey Championship kicks off with a bang.

South Africa’s men and women hockey teams are doing their country proud at the Greenfields African Hockey Championship at the Randburg Hockey Arena.

South Africa’s men’s team competed in their first game against Zimbabwe on 23 October, the opening day of the championship.

The team showed dedication and skill by out-playing the less-experienced Zimbabwe.

SA soared to victory with a 16–0 win.

The second day (24 October) brought the fierce female tent to the turf in a battle against Nigeria.

Their plays were quick and efficient by keeping low to the ground.

Nigeria chose a different tactic by using high passes which were often difficult to defend.

The final score was SA beating Nigeria 15–0. The men’s team dominated on the Astro again when they played Botswana.

It was to an utter thrashing by the home team, SA conquered by 30–0.

After a short one-day break, Randburg Hockey Arena saw the SA women’s team walk onto the turf to play Nambia on 26 October. Despite the bad weather, South Africa’s women beat Namibia 5–0.

Hoards of supporters can expect to watch the exciting semi- finals on 31 October and the finals on 1 November.
