WATCH: Wits and UJ students maintain order at historic protest

PRETORIA – Local students did not partake in the violence.

Wits and UJ students marched to the Union Buildings in a historic bid to change the future of education on 23 October 2015.

In the chaos that ensued, Wits and UJ students maintained order and stood by their ideals of peaceful but effective protest. This was largely due to the disciplined leadership of the four Wits SRC leaders, Shaeera Kalla, Nompendulo Mkwatsha, Vuyani Pambo and Mcebo Dlamini.

Watch as these leaders kept students focused on the main objective of the march.

Vuyani Pambo addressed the crowd of students,”You must remember why we are here. We are here to demand zero per cent fees increase and free education. Comrades, you must remember that we are protesting peacefully, we will not throw stones or cause havoc.”
