Parking lot gets new identity
RANDBURG – The refurbished parking lot at the Randburg Home Affairs is almost complete.
Residents will soon have a very different experience when visiting Randburg Home Affairs.
The parking lot that was once pothole-ridden and shabby has been transformed into a neat, access controlled paved parking area where residents can rest assured that their vehicles will be safe.
The Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) commenced with the multi-million upgrade in July and it is expected to be completed at the end of September. The new parking lot has 135 new parking bays, new fencing, and a boom gate at the main entrance, a brand-new guard house and trees which are low maintenance.
JPC senior marketing and communications manager Chantal Janneker said, “We are nearing completion of the project and ask that people be patient as we look forward to an upgraded parking lot.”
Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood who has been influential in ensuring the project reaches fruition added that the new parking lot will add value to the service Home Affairs is already giving. “It has taken a long time, but I am very happy with the outcome.”
Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “Councillor Wood and I welcome the great change to the parking lot. It is to be noted that the parking lot is not owned nor managed by the Department of Home Affairs but rather the City of Johannesburg. Wood has for some years been championing the need for the parking lot to be attended to.
“At the beginning of this year, councillor Wood and I embarked on a campaign to get the COJ to attend to the parking lot. A comprehensive report was sent to the COJ in February this year. To the City’s credit the JPC has been instrumental in getting this much needed upgrade attended to. We trust that visitors to the Randburg Home Affairs will enjoy the newly upgraded parking, and not have to worry about damaging their vehicles or slicing a tyre.”
Potter also noted that JPC has put out a tender for the management of the parking.
“We are also aware of the despicable state of the current Randburg Home Affairs building and have endeavoured to make contact with the Department of Public Works who owns and manages the building.”
Both councillors have expressed their thanks to the JPC and all stakeholders involved and vow to ensure that Home Affairs deliver the best possible service in all aspects.
