Randburg Toastmasters toasts winner

FERNDALE – Mack Rabapane will represent the Ferndale Toastmaster at the Southern African Toastmasters finals in October.

Randburg toastmaster Mack Rabapane’s sense of humor steered him to victory for his speech titled ‘This Other Guy’. Rabapane was chosen to represent South Africa at the Toastmaster’s Southern African Finals in October after impressing judges at a speech contest in Vereeniging. Rabapane who is from Limpopo said that he joined the Randburg Toastmasters to improve his confidence and to improve his public speaking skills as he often had to give presentations at work.

“A friend of mine recommended that I join Toastmasters and my confidence has since grown,” Rapabane said.

Rabapane who is a mining engineer, pointed out that he has had several successes since he joined the club a year ago. He was announced as the club’s speech contest winner as well as the area speech contest winner, which resulted in him going to the Southern African Toastmaster’s finals in October. “Now I do stand-up comedy and no one scares me anymore. I can get up and address an audience of any size now,” he said.

He added that public speaking had taught him that it was important to stop and think before addressing people and to be a good listener. “I am very excited to address the Toastmasters finals. What I am most looking forward to is meeting speakers from all over southern Africa, it should be very interesting and fun,” he said. He finished by saying that he would do his best to bring the prize back to Ferndale.
