Day 9 of Flabba trial: Murder accused Sindiswe is cross-examined by State

KENSINGTON B – The State cross-examines accused Sindiswe Manqele on her recollection of the fateful night.

State Advocate Paul Schutter cross-examined Sindisiwe Manqele on Day 9 of the Flabba murder case in Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 17 September.

Adv Schutter challenged Manqele that she was giving blurred versions about the murder incident that occurred in Alexandra, on 9 March.

Manqele is accused of the death of SA rap artist Nkululeko ‘Flabba’ Habedi, who died of a stab wound to the heart.

Adv Schutter’s examination explored the past relationship between the accused and the deceased.

Manqele explained that she started dating Flabba in 2006, when she was 17 years old.

He questioned her reaction to the messages she found on his phone.

“Your WhatsApp message seems very volatile and angry but, did the messages explicitly say that he was involved in sexual relations with three other women?” asked Adv Schutter.

Manqele replied, “No, but from the way they spoke to each other, it was easy to assume it was. He denied it at first and then admitted to these relationships.”

In other matters regarding the actual night at the Sands before Flabba’s death, Adv Schutter alleged that Manqele is lying about not knowing who Flabba’s ex girlfriend (Kia) was.

“We have evidence from two witnesses claiming that you became upset when she either danced or held her buttocks in the presence of you and the deceased,” he stated.

He also added, “If you did not know who Kia was, how were you able to accurately admit to not knowing her?”

Manqele defended her recollection of the altercation that took place in the deceased’s bedroom.

“He pulled me back and turned me around as I was running for the door,” explained Manqele.

AdvSchutter argued, “It is improbable that the deceased was able to get up from his knees when you pushed him off, from you, and still be able to reach you before you got to the door.”

Judge Sethole also questioned, “Why did you not just throw the knife away when you got free? That would have given you enough time to escape if his intention was to kill you.”

The trial continues on 18 September at Randburg Magistrates’ Court at 10am.
